| RI works to stimulate and repair economies destroyed in countries ravaged by disaster or conflict. Essential components of economic development projects include: microcredit lending, creation of alternative livelihoods, and business training programmes. | While disasters have a negative impact on people' lives, they can also be an opportunity to rebuild damaged or sub-standard structures. RI implements holistic methods of reconstruction to build shelters, reconstruct municipal facilities and systems, and rehabilitate roads.
